As many of you know it costs us roughly $1,000 to save a baby girl from gendercide in the Peoples Republic of China. After realizing what a long way we have to go to make even a dent in the millions of baby girls “set aside” every year we need to enlist your help. If God has been speaking to you about what you might do to stop gendercide against baby girls then this is what we are ready to do. If you will sponsor a girl at $36 per month for 36 months, we will release $1,000 in China the next day and save a girl immediately. All we need is your commitment to help. The details will be posted right here later in the month.

If this is something that God is laying on your heart and you can’t afford to help financially, will you organize for us in your Church or in your community to inspire others to do what they can to stop this inhuman act of murder? If you can do neither would you join us and so many others in petitioning our Heavenly Father to raise up others who can support us financially or organizationally?

Or can you do something practically like Ms Baker in Minnesota who is crocheting afghans for new borns to wear or like Amy from Wisconsin who is going to go with her Mom door to door to sign up sponsors in her community? There are as many ways to help as you can think of. Does your Senior group need a project?

What are your young girls doing in the community? How about saving the life of another girl. Or how about joining us in putting $100 into our scholarship fund for each girl that we save.

I am only one man that God asked to save the babies that were brought to him. Its 13 years later this month and 44,000 baby girls are alive who would be dead if God had not showed me what He wanted me to do. What does God want you to do? Pray about it and if He puts this work on your heart, join us.

God Bless you as you listen to His guidance in your life.

If you feel that you want to donate money to our work or sponsor a little girl then mail us that intent to:
The Bethune Institute, 3-304 Stone Rd., Suite 300,
Guelph, Ontario, Canada

THE PINK PAGODA by Jim Garrow is the compelling, compassionate story of one man’s determination to save baby girls in China, one child at a time. Today, the number of girls he has saved from gendercide brought about by China’s one-child mandate is over 40,000. Given that Dr. Garrow has been doing this for eleven years and is himself only 60, one can only speculate as to how large that number could become during his lifetime. This is the story of how one man’s decision to say “Yes” to one child in danger led him to use his entrepreneurial gifts and innate skills for mobilizing others to create the baby-saving organization which is called Pink Pagoda. All of this has come at great personal cost to him, along with the reality that his life and those of his family hang on the edge of danger. Pink Pagoda is his promise to God out of gratitude for his own son’s life being saved at birth. That is a promise he will honor for the rest of his life. Not that Dr. Garrow is a mild-mannered milquetoast loved by all and gentle in his demeanor. More accurately, he is a “rogue with integrity” who works hand in hand with the most secret of Chinese intelligence forces, and who is by United Nations description a “criminal engaged in human trafficking”. Ironically, he was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 and the Order of Canada in 2010. Apparently, God’s guanxi trumps the U.N. The term guanxi is central to how Dr. Garrow accomplishes what he does. The concept of carefully nurtured relationships and connections dates back to medieval China, and is what drives life in China, at all levels – from the simple peasant to the President of China. Garrow is a master of guanxi, and one of the most highly respected people in China. His story combines his impish humor with the horrors of what he has encountered in China, more adventure than apologia. He is at the core an ordinary man doing extraordinary work under the guidance of God.

We are surveying many folks about the concept Pink Pagoda Girls and are having a generally great reception. What is consistently coming up though is the notion of “sponsorship” in saving the baby girls in China. As a result we are exploring how that might be done and some very good ideas have been forthcoming.

In the next few weeks you will see the www.pinkpagoda.org and www.bethuneinstitute.com sites change radically to accommodate our new thrust. While the 501c3 concept is tempting many have expressed the support of our original way of doing things as an entity not tied to government in any way. We do not exist to serve the whims of government officials wherever they exist and whatever party they represent.

We have been self funding up until this point and because we believe that our days are numbered we want to rescue as many as we possibly can in the short days that we have to do so. That opens us up then to the thought of including you in the process of saving these girls and funding that effort. I believe in the power of prayer and after a very intense time of that, asking for God’s clear direction, I went to our mailbox and was blown away to find our very first check in support of Pink Pagoda from a small Lutheran congregation in Minnesota. Their missionary committee had felt led to give to our work from their missions budget. Wow. God had anticipated my prayer and answered it in advance and it was waiting for me minutes after I poured my heart out to Him for His leading. What a God we serve. Praise Him for His provision and clear direction.

Now we will be offering sponsorships for our girls knowing our costs are $1,000 to save a baby. So folks will be able to sign up to sponsor one girl for $30 per month, 2 girls for $60 per month, or 3 girls for $90 per month. The expectation is that you will commit to 36 months of sponsorship. Payments will be received through your credit card. We will release the $1,000 in China to save a girl immediately upon receiving your pledge. That means that the very day that you commit to sponsorship, a girls will be rescued. We are saving just over 15 per day and will expand that greatly as your support comes in.

Should you feel led to give one time gifts that can also be done through the credit card or through mailing a check to The Bethune Institute, 3-304 Stone Rd., Suite 300, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1G4W4.

Thank you so much for your considerable input and your thoughts and prayers. You can still reach us toll free from anywhere in North America at 1-888-577-0773.

Blessings
Jim Garrow

This picture shows Executive Director of the Bethune Institute and its Pink Pagoda program, Dr. James Garrow, donating a memorial piece, commemorating the life and work of Mother Teresa at the dedication of the new offices of the highly acclaimed Catholic magazine, Crisis.
Within the framed piece being donated are a picture of Mother Teresa, a description of her order the Missionaries of Charity, and a postcard commemorating the visit of Pope John 23rd to North America. On the card Mother Teresa had written for Dr. Garrow, God bless you, M. Teresa. Mother Teresa left this “mortal coil” in September of 1997 shortly after this presentation. Millions have rallied in support of her as “the Saint of Calcutta” and the Catholic Church has responded and begun the beatification process.

Lighting a candle rather than cursing the darkness!

Pink Pagoda is dedicated to changing the outcome of a very hard decision that some parents are driven to in the Peoples Republic of China. The national policy of one child per couple plus the traditional place of the first born male as the provider for parents in their old age leaves many couples with a dilemna of what to do if their child is a girl. Some make the tragic decision to end her life and try for a boy. Here at the decision stage is where our program steps in. Through a word of mouth information campaign we have shown over 27,000 families that allowing their child to live and be adopted by a foreigner is a much preferred option to infanticide. They have agreed with us.

Help us to do this most difficult work in changing the outcome for the thousands of young girls who would otherwise loose their lives. Your donation saves lives. We say a very grateful thank you to those who assist us in this endeavour.
Dr. Jim Garrow, PhD
Executive Director
The Bethune Institute/
Pink Pagoda

One of the harsh realities of the national policy of one child per family in the Peoples Republic of China is the diminishing value of females. I have struggled with how we might help save some of the females that are cast aside in some of the poorer districts of China and on my last sojourn in Chongqing I met with a number of adoption agencies and was advised of ways that we might help.

An information program to let the Chinese folks know that their children are loved and needed by folks from all over the world who would love to adopt them.

A program to provide transportation for the folks and their babies into central locations for the adoption agencies to meet and explain the process to them.

A program to help share the cost to couples wishing to adopt who would not normally qualify for the right to adopt.

Facebook users that will spread the message to their various networks and encourage their friends to join Pink Pagoda

State and Provincial coordinators who will take charge of the dissemination of information and the encouragement of those of who wish to give in support of our efforts.

Each of these initiatives require funds to back the efforts. Should you choose the opportunity to donate to Pink Pagoda, send a gift, make the cheque/check payable to The Bethune Institute, and on the particulars line write, Pink Pagoda,
